New Shoes... to keep on walkin'

Everything always happens for a reason, but who would have thought that yesterday on my shopping excursion with the girls' I told them "I need a new pair of shoes". Well, when you get bad news what's the thing to do? You take a deep breath, and you look straight ahead and you just keep on walking, with my new shoes!

The PET scan showed two unfavorable things, but nothing we won't be able to fight through! One more "yucky" lymph node is involved, under my right rib cage and there are quite a bit of tumor cells inside the lymphatic channels and blood vessels inside the breast tissue. What does this mean? In addition to the chemotherapy we knew we were going to have to do, Radiation therapy will now be required. As I write this I am just so thankful to science for giving us the opportunity to have a choice- WOW!

The one last thing Dr Osborne said before she left the room, "if you wouldn't have lost the weight you did, you wouldn't have found this when you did." Everything happens for a reason. For those of you who do not know, I have lost 50 lbs since Oct 2009 and had just had an article published in a local magazine about my weight loss. I do miss my exercise, but soon- my shoes, they are new!

Brian went ahead to be with the team, they play in San Antonio this weekend, I get to go to class in the morning- Chemo Class, that is. I will be sure to be the best student and take perfect notes. Now I can honestly say I not only received my undergrad from Baylor, but I also took a class at Baylor Medical "School" wink, wink, ok- I know I may be pushing it ;), but I will be on the campus!!!

Our decisions our not yet complete, so please keep everything coming our way- we still need every ounce of it, thank you all- again!!!!

I'm walkin' ..hear it... Click-clack, click-clack ;)

  1. Dear Leticia- My name is Brooke Blevins and I had the pleasure of sitting next to your husband on our flight from Dallas to San Antonio last night. Although we didn't have much time to talk, he shared with me your story. I mentioned something about applying for a faculty position at Baylor and he piped in that it would be a fantastic place to work...at least that is what his wife would tell you. Then the conversation continued as he shared of your journey through this tough battle. Just want you to know that he loves you deeply and is hugely committed to you and winning this battle. You and your family are in my family and community's prayers now and I am confident that you will have a beautiful testimony at the end of this journey. And yeah for new shoes and yea for 50lbs. You go girl!!

  3. Your optimism amazes me. That a Girl! No doubt whatsoever it comes from your faith in Christ. Everything does happen for a reason and I know that he walks ahead of your paving the way. Even though we don't know what lies ahead...he knows and he equiping you with EVERYTHING you will need to be victorious. We love you and we continue to pray for you and all involved in your journey. Love you my "favorite cousin".

  5. Well, I may need another bracelet and a t-shirt since this fight is going an extra inning. But I have great faith in your coach and your batting average. Love you, Lanita

  6. Leticia, it was great to see you this weekend and see and feel your optimism and positive energy. We're trying to buy a few of the bracelets and have contacted Brian to find out how. We will follow your progress on the blog and please know that we wish you nothing but the best. We'll be thinking of you often. Julia, Lance, Jordan, and Buddy.

  7. Leticia,
I just want to tell you again that you AND your family are in our prayers. If there is any thing I can do to help make things "normal" for Lincoln, please don't hesitate to ask. We miss him at school. I will take good care of him!
Hope your treatment will be effective and the least amount of side effects! Remember: Psalm 105:4 "Look to the Lord and HIS strength, seek His face always."
    Blessings. Mrs. Jane
